Peter Clackson
TEACHER & DEPUTY DSL
I have been working in schools and educational settings ever since I left school myself. My passion for working with children and young people became clear during my first job when I was 18 where I worked in a school in Australia. Following that, I gained experience in an outdoor activity setting and as a boarding tutor, and the combination of these roles inspired me to pursue a degree in Childhood Studies at university in Bristol.
During my studies, I developed a holistic understanding of childhood, exploring how different aspects of life including education, psychology, and health, contribute to a child’s well-being and development. After graduating, I worked at a therapeutic special needs school that embraced a “hand, head, and heart” approach. There, outdoor learning, crafts, and working with animals played a key role in helping children better understand themselves and the world around them. This experience helped further shape my perspective on education and inspired me to complete my PGCE.
Throughout my career, I have witnessed the value of the outdoors and a nurturing environment in children's learning. In my own time I prioritise spending time outdoors and love hiking, mounting biking and running. When I discovered Wildwood, I immediately resonated with its approach and values, which align with my own beliefs about education.
I am really excited to join Wildwood and look forward to being part of the community!
