Eden Rickson

FOREST SCHOOL LEADER & PLAY ASSISTANT

I am Eden, a newly qualified Forest School Leader with a creative background. I am deeply passionate about the benefits of nature-based education and I love working with and learning from young children - mostly so that I get to play and connect to my own inner child!

I trained at The BRIT School in Theatre and at the Central School of Speech and Drama, where I loved expressing myself creatively. I then landed a job working in a school teaching drama through the curriculum. Whilst I enjoyed it, I still felt trapped by the constraints of the education system and exhausted.

Then I had a particularly challenging day, feeling totally burnt out, running between classes and dealing with a string of difficulties. But during this day there was one powerful moment. I got the Year 6 class to make still images of storms at sea using their bodies. As they were creating them, a real storm begun outside and they all ran to the window to watch, wishing they could experience it for real. I saw how they were so drawn to the power of nature outside and how it can really influence children’s creativity. I had my eureka moment - what if I could align my two passions - NATURE and WORKING WITH CHILDREN - and be a Forest School Leader?

Since then my life has completely changed. I just finished my training (and now work at) Kinship in Nature, an east London Forest School, and started working at  The Garden Classroom  as a Leader on Urban Forest School programmes. I truly feel that my life has purpose and I’m so passionate about providing access to the therapeutic benefits of nature for all children. I am so excited and honoured to be a part of Wildwood Nature School.

In my spare time you’ll find me cooking up a storm (especially with foraged food!), performing spoken word poetry, singing or spending time in nature.
