Carla Jones
SPANISH TEACHER
I first learned Spanish aged ten when my family moved to Spain for one year and it’s become my passion to share this skill in creative ways. I found myself questioning and seeking more human centred ways of learning since I was at university. There I first watched Ken Robinson’s Ted talk, did dissertation fieldwork into indigenous education in Mexico and worked in a company bringing play back into our lives in the UK. This interest all culminated in me setting up my own immersive Spanish school in 2016. I now run Spanish evening classes using hands-on activities like cooking, games, dance and music to bring language learning to life.
What’s more I love being outdoors and it’s been a dream to combine teaching with the natural world. When not at work you can find me growing vegetables on my family allotment, volunteering at a medicinal herbs community garden in Chingford or cold water swimming. Ultimately, I know that for our children regular contact with the natural world is so important and so I’m absolutely delighted to be part of such an inspirational school.
I studied Spanish and Portuguese with Geography at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge and qualified at the Institute of Education as a Spanish teacher with English as an Additional Language. I have taught Spanish, French and Latin across secondary and primary schools.
